In The City (Part 1: The Day)

Soundtrack: Accesory - Jordyn Taylor

Corrie’s POV

I groaned heavily as I rolled off the bed and turned off my freakingly loud alarm clock. Ugh… I hate my mom for that. Last Christmas, she gave me this stupid alarm clock and I have to use it or else my dad will start giving me a speech about appreciating other people, and blablabla (Trust me, I did forget once, and it was NOT a short lecture, or in this case, speech.) I looked at the clock and start to panic. “SHIT!” I hurried to my extra huge 3 m2 closet. Valerie always say how lucky I am to actually got this kind of apartment, well now’s not a great time to be thinking about lucky.

I pull out my Phillip Lim black dress (I just love LBDs) with a fishnet tights, a pair of Bottega Veneta black ankle boots, and a lace and diamantes headband Mirella made for me. I brushed my teeth quickly, and start doing my makeup. I do my eye makeup in a simple winged liner, and mascara. I brushed my cheeks in a rose pink blush hurriedly, and put on some red Lancôme plumping gloss. I grabbed my red winter coat from Primark (a gift from Clara when she modeled it) and my Chanel 2.55 purse (I’m a total fan of these. I have like, 20). Last touch before I leave, I put on my Chanel No. 5 perfume, then get out of my apartment and locked the door.

I took a lift downstairs, and ask the doorman to get me a cab. He called them up and lucky me, one stopped immediately. “The Westchester building, please”, I said, ordering the driver. He nodded, and starts driving. “So, you work at what magazine?” ”Vogue, actually. I’m Corrie Wildflower.” “Ah, the fashion editor?” I looked at him suspiciously. “Yes… Why?” “God, my wife can’t stop talking about how brilliant you are, and blablabla. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against you, but the way she said it, it’s like you’re a goddess or something like that.” I blushed a little at the compliment. “Please say to your wife thank you for the compliment. It really does mean a lot to me.” “No problem. I’ll give her the message.” “Oh, can we stop at Starbucks near the building? I really need a good dose of caffeine right now.” “Okay. But please make it quick, or some other people might take over this taxi.” He said chuckling. I can’t help but to smile a little. Soon after that small talk, he stopped at the Starbucks. “Here you go. The Starbucks!” I laughed and get inside.

It seems like today’s my lucky day. The line is EMPTY, no joke. Usually, some people in boring office suits will fill up this place, ordering coffees to keep them awake at work. I walked to the register, and saw someone cleaning up the counter. I cleared my throat and he turned to me. WOW. INSANELY CUTE GUY, LESS THAN A STEP, IN FRONT OF ME!!! OMG OMG OMG!!! “Can I help you?” he said, with a gorgeous smile. “Um, yeah, I would like a vanilla latte, low fat milk, skimmed, and please don’t throw away the foam. Every other Starbucks always throw them away, which I hate ‘cause I LOVE them.” The god-looking-almost-perfect guy chuckles, and said, “Sure. 1 latte coming up.” with a smile, and a wink. OMG, HE JUST WINKED AT ME!!! This is absolutely the luckiest and the best day of my life! He wear a simple, black and bold frame glasses, but that doesn’t make him look like a nerd, that just made him look… cute. Like a well educated, intelligent, nice boy, and it looks like he’s coming from a good family too.

2 minutes later, my latte is done. He gave it to me, with a paper napkin. I swore I saw something written on it, assuming it was his phone number. “Thanks.” I said, while smiling. “No problem. Not every day a pretty lady like you comes here.” I giggled and starts turning away, making my way to the door. I could feel myself blush a little by his compliment. Suddenly, I felt somebody grabbing my wrist. “Wait!” I turned back to him. “I’ll see you around?” he said, with a hopeful smile. “I dunno. Maybe if you’re lucky, you will.” I said, winking to him as I walk out the door.
